Soft lashes shivered as the little girl
whimpered in her sleep. They reminded her mother of the butterflies the little
one curled up in her arms chased only hours before.
Baby girl...I wish I could take your pain away...
A whispered sigh escaped her lips as the little one started sobbing again. The
woman gently rocked as she hummed a soft lullaby with a voice reserved only
for her three children and her husband. She nuzzled the silken
strawberry-streaked raven hair with her cheek as she arched her blood and
sable wings around them both. Sobs reverted into whimpering again as the small
body curled tighter against the toned woman.
She continued humming, longing to hear the child's soft purr; yearning for the
toddler to get some real sleep.
Gods...Brenna...I wish your dad was here...Klork always seems to calm you
down...heh...me, too...
She turned her gaze to the twin boys sleeping blissfully in their cribs, then
stood, wings and arms wrapped securely around the fretfully sleeping child.
Thank the gods you two aren't having these dreams too...
A shudder shook her frame lightly when she remembered Cala's reaction to
taking some of her child's pain. She paced, still humming soothingly.
I almost wish that bastard would just come back so we can get this over with,
and you could finally get some rest..
She settled on the bed she and her husband share.
We've still got people who need to heal from the LAST crisis...plus there's
still that whole Jason thing...AND whatever the hell's going on with
FOss...godFUCKIN'damnit...
Brenna's sudden whimper brought her back to reality. She lay back and cuddled
the little girl now curled up to her breast. The gentle humming resumed as she
quashed that anger.
I guess a little peace is too much to ask for...
Brenna's whimperings finally faded into her soft purr, and her mother sighed
with relief. After about twenty minutes, she was sure enough that the little
one wasn't going to awaken for a while that she took her back to her bed. Once
she was tucked in, HLM leaned in to drop a gentle kiss on her brow.
Please sleep well, baby...let those nightmares stay away...
She stood, then kissed the twins' brows before stepping back to watch her
sleeping children.
Graceful wings arched protectively behind her.
I should talk to Aiden...I mean...he did train Kev, Kee and Dev...maybe
there's something he could do to help...those herbs Kev brought a while back
did help her that first time...but...mebbe Thera can help too...I just hate
this...
She shook her head a little, wiped at her eyes and made sure the shields and
wards she had on the children were firmly in place. Out into the hall she
stepped, and she withdrew her wings into her back once the door was closed.
Guess we just have to see what we can do...
A head-shake accompanied her footsteps. Within moments, she was sitting in
front of the computer and pulling up the programs she needed to do the
Asylum's budgeting.
We'll make it, Moron...just hang in there...
